  • Valid rabies vaccination in accordance with the recommendations of the manufacture of the vaccine.  This vaccine must be given at least 21 days prior to departure.

  • In some instances, a blood sample testing must be done to check the rabies antibody level. The blood must be drawn at least 30 days after the rabies vaccination has been given.

Important to note:

The blood sample must be examined by an EU authorized laboratory. The result of the rabies antibody level test must be at least 0,5 IE/ml. The animal cannot enter Denmark (the EU) until three (3) months after the date when the blood sample was drawn and only if the result is in accordance with the requirements

The border inspection post at Copenhagen Airport, Kastrup or Billund Airport must be notified at least 24 hours prior to the import if you are coming from outside the EU. There may also be a restriction on the number of animals you are allowed to import.

At the border inspection the animal will undergo border checks, i.e.: document and identity checks. The following information should be mailed or faxed to the border inspection post at least 24 hours prior to the import:

  • Information about the animal and owner including country of origin

  • Time and date of arrival and flight number

Please note that the requirements do vary depending on where you are relocating from, please contact us for more information or visit the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration website at: http://www.uk.foedevarestyrelsen.dk/ImportExport/forside.htm

Insurance requirements for pets:

In Denmark it is statutory to have a liability insurance for your dog. Therefore, if you own a dog which is living in Denmark, you are required to get a liability insurance, which will cover if your dog injures another person, animal or someone’s belongings. This kind of insurance doesn’t cover if your dog gets into an accident and has to be taken to the vet or hospital. A life- or health insurance will cover such accidents and is not mandatory in Danmark, but we do recommend you get one for your dog.
